The City of Lee’s Summit is celebrating the completion of two beautification projects at the City’s gateway monuments, which welcome people as they enter Lee’s Summit. The Lee’s Summit Beautification Commission and Lee’s Summit Industrial Development Authority were instrumental in carrying out the projects, providing a total of $21,000 in funding to complete the beautification of the monuments at Interstate 470 and View High Drive and Interstate 470 and Lakewood Boulevard.
Down to Earth Services designed and installed the landscaping at the gateway monument at I-470 and View High Drive. The design uses xeriscape landscaping to reduce the need for irrigation, with plants such as purple poppy mallow, prairie smoke and Missouri primrose. Down to Earth Services will also provide maintenance for three years. After the three-year period, Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation will assume maintenance and upkeep of the beautification improvements.
Rosehill Gardens and Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation completed the landscaping at the gateway monument at I-470 and Lakewood Boulevard, which incorporates limestone landscape rock, Missouri black-eyed Susan and canaerti juniper. Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation will be responsible for maintaining the property.
“The Beautification Commission’s vision for our gateway monuments is now complete with the landscaping at our two monuments,” said Beautification Commission member Kim Fritchie. “It was truly a collaborative effort and we are incredibly proud of the results.”
