Hillcrest is committed to providing quality programs and services during this national, state, and local emergency. In fact, this crisis has shown how – now more than ever – Hillcrest is a vital resource for families on the edge of homelessness.

In light of the national emergency surrounding COVID-19, they wanted to assure you that Hillcrest is committed to their residents, volunteers, staff, and the community. You might be wondering how they are handling the Coronavirus and its potential impact on the organization and the families they serve.

Hillcrest is being vigilant.

The two thrift stores remain open for customers and donations. All efforts are being maintained for a clean and sanitary retail shopping experience.

To minimize possible exposure, they are asking that all large (5 or more individuals) volunteer groups reschedule their projects. For questions regarding your scheduled volunteer opportunity, contact Tamara Grubb at (816) 994-6934 or e-mail tgrubb@hillcrestkc.org.

They are taking all necessary precautions to keep our staff, residents, and volunteers safe.

They are using this time to reinforce some of the cornerstones of the Hillcrest model with clients, including the importance of building personal and financial resiliency.

Here are some ways you can help.

As you can imagine, this crisis has presented some unique challenges for client families. Hillcrest continues to ask for donations of food, hygiene, and household supplies for campus pantries.

They have a number of volunteer opportunities that can be done at home or in a way that supports social distancing, such as joining the prayer team, working on landscaping, sorting thrift donations, and more. E-mail tgrubb@hillcrestkc.org for more information.

Hillcrest is strong.

The staff is healthy and their employment is safe. Hillcrest has been and will continue to be committed to the staff by providing the health benefits, sick/family leave, and schedule flexibility they require.

The case managers are working with clients on any unique circumstances that pose a challenge to their success in the program during this time.

Recent efforts to enhance internet connectivity, energy efficiency, and security on the properties is paying off. Residents are equipped to complete school and/or work assignments from their residence.

Hillcrest is an excellent steward of your financial and in-kind support. Your faithful contributions and the diligence of the Board and staff have provided a foundation for Hillcrest to weather this storm. Please continue to support Hillcrest so that they fulfill their mission and ministry responsibly.

Hillcrest joins the community in supporting one another. They are confident that this trial will make them stronger, more united, and better prepared for the future.
