First Baptist Church in Lee’s Summit donated $22,000 to Lee’s Summit Social Services (LSSS) this week.

The donation is part of an offering collected through the church’s recent virtual church services which totaled over $44,000. It comes at a time when services and organizations such as LSSS are anticipating an increase in weekly grocery, utility and rent assistance needs as the pandemic continues.

“This generous donation will allow us to continue to serve our communities, in spite of so many obstacles that we face during this time,” LSSS Executive Director Matt Sanning said in a release. “The collaboration they have shown truly shows the resolve that we all know will be the one factor that will make a time like this be remembered as a time where good people did great things. We will continue our support of the community and the organizations are going to be the tip of the spear in each of our efforts.”

The other half of the offering went to downtown Lee’s Summit employees whose paychecks have been affected by stay-at-home orders. These donations were made in the form of $100 Hy-Vee gift cards.
