County Executive announces plans to begin phase one on May 11

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. – alongside Unified Government of Wyandotte County, KCK Mayor/CEO David Alvey and Johnson County, Kansas Board of Commissioners Chairman Ed Eilert – announced today that he plans to begin phase one of reopening Jackson County on May 11.

“I’d like to thank officials in Wyandotte County and Johnson County for their collaboration to align our reopening plans to the maximum extent possible to minimize confusion by residents in our communities,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “The community’s compliance to the stay-at-home orders have been effective in flattening the curve, allowing us to make plans to move forward in a smart and safe manner. But we must do so with caution. The COVID-19 virus is still in our community and we will need everyone’s continued cooperation to protect public health. Our future is in our hands.”

Jackson County, in consultation with Jackson County Health Department Director Bridgette Shaffer, MPH, has drafted a recovery plan which aims to protect the health and safety of Jackson County residents, facilitate a safe start and transition to economic recovery and support all people and communities. The County is not releasing the entirety of its plan at this time, but it will largely mirror many of the components of the plans announced by Johnson and Wyandotte counties earlier this week.

County residents are being asked to help finalize the recovery plan by taking a brief survey answering a few simple questions. The County wants to hear how residents are feeling about reopening our community’s workplaces, businesses and venues – what steps do they plan to take, what steps they want workplaces, businesses and venues to take and what steps they want Jackson County to take to help them feel safe.
