Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that the theatre department has been nominated for three of Starlight Theatre’s Blue Star Awards.

Starlight’s annual Blue Star Awards recognize achievement and excellence in musical theatre among Kansas City area high school students. High schools in metropolitan Kansas City and surrounding areas are invited to participate and each year 5,000 area students contribute either on the stage or behind the scenes in their school’s musical theatre production.

Summit Christian Academy received nominations for: Outstanding Costume Design and Construction, Tier 1 (Disney’s “Mary Poppins”), Outstanding Scenic Design and Construction, Tier 1 (Disney’s “Mary Poppins”), and Outstanding Actress in Ensemble Role, (M’racle Bryant-Morgan as Ensemble in Disney’s “Mary Poppins”).

“Mary Poppins is an ambitious show, and these students worked tirelessly to make sure our production looked incredible,” shared SCA Theatre Director Emily Stam. “We are so proud of our costume designers (juniors Aidan Lahey and Collin Pemberton) and set designers (senior Patrick Simpson and junior Ashlyn Steller) for their respective nominations. Sophomore M’racle Bryant-Morgan’s commitment to excellence was similarly impressive, as she not only played the memorable role of Mrs. Corry, but also danced skillfully as a statue and a chimney sweep. We are so proud of all our nominees, as well as the rest of the cast and crew, who each contributed to the show’s enormous success. God has truly blessed SCA Theatre with a group of talented and dedicated theatre students.”

Starlight’s red-carpet Blue Star Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, July 31, 2020.
