Excitement is brewing over major projects set to take shape at John Knox Village. The senior living community is currently working with Harkrader Construction to tear down 17 existing units and replacing them with seven Villas at the property.

The Villa homes consist of single homes, duplexes and triplexes ranging in size from 1,200 to 1,371 square feet. Already, John Knox Village said five of the seven new Villa homes have been sold.

“The Villa program has been a big success,” said Eric Scott, Director of Operations and Development at John Knox Village.

Construction on the villas is expected to be complete in March of 2021, but that is only the beginning of the work planned. John Knox Village is in the process of vetting design and finances on the next phase of the Meadow apartment buildings.

Phase II of the Meadows will be a four-story 116,000-square-foot building with 52 apartments. Total capital investment is expected to be about $20 million. It will be adjacent to the existing Meadows East building, which was built in 2018. Bidding is scheduled to begin in January of 2021.

“I’m excited about the Meadows II, and I’m even more excited about the next 5 years after the Meadows II,” said Scott.

Scott said in coming years, John Knox Village will continue to focus on achieving goals outlined in the rolling strategic plan, which includes campus redevelopment projects.

LSEDC President & CEO Rick McDowell said the strategic plan will contribute to the quality of life in Lee’s Summit.

“Our community is projected for major growth in the near future and this addition at John Knox Village ensures that our senior living in Lee’s Summit is prepared to meet the demands of that growth and to offer a high quality option,” said McDowell.
