William “Billy” Peterson has announced his candidacy for a seat on the Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education. As a father of young children, he is a candidate that represents a voice for young families in the district.
William understands the diverse family dynamics that make up our community and believes he can help bridge communication gaps while bringing a new perspective to the board.
William experienced many differing educational systems growing up in Florida, Wyoming, Kansas, and Costa Rica. His Costa Rican mother and her family instilled many Hispanic values that he still holds to today. Growing up, he learned the true value of working hard and making sacrifices to make ends meet. From a young age he learned to think creatively to find solutions to challenges that many are not accustomed to. He moved to Missouri when starting high school, graduating in 2008.
The same year he graduated high school, William joined the military and married his high school sweetheart. He spent the next five years serving in the Air Force as a Nuclear Surety Expert & Combat Arms Instructor. This training provided the opportunity to develop unique critical thinking skills while taking a leadership role in training Airmen to ensure they were competent with their job duties and equipment. William left the military in 2013 and went on to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems.
William is a family man, and recently he celebrated the birth of his third beautiful child and 14 years of marriage. When he is not gardening, kid chasing, soccer playing or house fixing he is giving back by volunteering to his community and serving the children and families in the nursery of his church.
In addition to requesting your vote for a seat on the school board, William is asking you to support the LSR-7 ballot measure. By voting YES to this April’s levy transfer you are voting YES to support our teachers and staff. For the district to continue to attract and retain quality staff, this transfer will offer an opportunity for salary increases without raising taxes to the community.
