The Historical Society of Lee’s Summit hosted the second annual Legends of Lee’s Summit Gala on May 16, 2024, honoring families or individuals who have made an impact on the Lee’s Summit community.

This year’s honorees receiving Civic/Pioneer awards were Buck Langsford and the Langsford/Cox Family; Tom Lovell; Mary Ann and Randy Rhoads and Ralph “Doc” Powell; and Geneva High, Matt Sanning and Megan Salerno, receiving the Humanitarian Award.

Honorees were recognized in front of a sold out crowd at the Historic Longview Mansion. The evening included an optional tour of the mansion during the cocktail hour. Longview artifacts from the History Museum were on display in the library area before and after dinner.

Attendees participated in a short, fun trivia contest focusing on Lee’s Summit and the Longview Mansion.

The Historical Society created this annual event in 2022 to celebrate and recognize a person or family who has impacted (or is impacting) the community of Lee’s Summit past, present or future.

Proceeds from this event are used to support the operation and improvements to the Lee’s Summit History Museum. To learn more about the History Museum or the Legends of Lee’s Summit event and future nominations, visit the museum’s website www.leessummitmuseum.com or their Facebook page.
