Musicians, entertainers and performers will descend upon Lee’s Summit April 19 for a shot at thousands of dollars in scholarships. And from there – if past winners are any indication – the sky is the limit.
Lee’s Summit CARES Presents: Got Talent – now in its 8th season – will again attract the best and brightest from all over the region, all vying for a share of $6,000 in scholarship prizes.
The April 19 auditions will take place at MCC – Longview’s Cultural Arts Center and are open to all Kansas City-area youth, 18 and older. Producers will select the top 20 acts the same day, moving them on to the main event on June 9 at the Lee’s Summit High School Performing Arts Center. “Got Talent just keeps getting more and more exciting every year,” Lee’s Summit CARES Executive Director Rachel Segobia said. “The event has grown to be one of the most popular in the community each year and we are thrilled to be able to offer scholarship money and an amazing live performance that all families can come out and enjoy.”
Got Talent is proud of its Kansas City area alumni who are busy proving themselves on a national level. Season 2 champion Blair Bryant, a member of the jazz band MQ5, has become a nationally recognized bass player with an album considered one of the Top 10 Best Jazz CDs of 2015 by talkingsmoothjazz.com. Season 3 ‘Crowd Pleaser’ winner Jordan Haas was selected to perform the National Anthem for the Kansas City Royals in 2015 and Season 4’s winning band, State Line Drive, recently released a CD (available on iTunes), are booking live performances all around the country and opened for country superstar Tate Stevens in 2016.
“Got Talent is a unique competition that celebrates the incredible diversity of talent within our Kansas City area youth,” Segobia said. “The show encourages young performers to pursue their passion in an affirming and supportive environment. Audience members are blown away year after year by the outstanding quality of talent on display.”
Got Talent is the major fundraiser for Lee’s Summit CARES, a nonprofit community coalition that provides programs for youth substance use prevention, parenting and character development. The 30-year old nonprofit agency works to maintain a healthy and safe community for children, youth and families of the Greater Lee’s Summit area.
