Summit Christian Academy was the proud host to ten elected officials and nearly seventy local stakeholders for its first Legislative Impact Breakfast. Joining the event were Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, Field Representative Michael Clarke for Roy Blunt, Senators Mike Cierpiot and Ed Emery, Representatives Rebecca Roeber and Dan Stacy, and Lee’s Summit Mayor Randy Rhoads, Mayor Pro Tem Rob Binney, and Councilmembers Fred DeMoro and Diane Forte. Head of School Linda Harrelson welcomed everyone, expressing her delight at Summit Christian’s ability to bring leaders together to discuss important issues. Her welcome was followed by a prayer offered by high school senior Michaela Loux and then pledges led by four boy scouts who proudly represented their patriotism and their school. SCA Elememntary Principal & Academy Dean Kimberlee Gill facilitated a question and answer session between the audience and the honored guests.

“Today was a day of empowerment,” shared SCA Elementary Principal and Academic Dean Kimberlee Gill. “It was such an honor to be able to truly hear from the servant leaders that were in room. They inspired everyone to find a voice in government and speak up through email, Jefferson City visits, and even social media! We were ably reminded that we are the voice for our children.”

Questions were asked on topics ranging from state legislation on school choice, to federal government and healthcare, to how Summit Christian could serve its community in an even greater way.

Following the event, Senator Emery visited the college American government class in order to inspire civil service within the SCA students. Junior Maggie Munsterman enjoyed his visit. “I really liked hearing his insights concerning government. He mentioned how important it was to remember whose jurisdiction you are under–not only in government but also from a Scriptural point of view. He inspired us to lead others in finding Truth.” Matthew Mitchell, school junior shared, “What amazed me was how much his talk echoed what our teacher has shared with us in class. My biggest take away was his analysis of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and its foundation on the Word of God. He shared that our school curriculum sets us up for success because we are learning the whole Truth.” The class ended Senator Emery’s discussion by quoting him the preamble to the Constitution.
