The day after the Kansas City Mavericks clinched a playoff berth rookie Nikolas Koberstein added a personal highlight in a win over the Indy Fuel. Kober as he is called by his new teammates scored his first professional goal making a weekend trip to Indiana a pretty memorable one for both the player and team.

Nikolas joined the Mavericks on Friday March 15 then quickly went out on the road for the next two weeks. The right-handed defensemen played collegiately at University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Kober hails from Barrhead, Alberta Canada where what he calls “a big crew back home” cheers him on from his home town. Nikolas claims the Toronto Blue Jays as his favorite pro sports team. This is due to him growing up in Canada and his family is big baseball fans.

The 23-year old first put on a pair of skates at the age of three. Kober’s favorite hockey memory so far is “playing as a Maverick.” He is quick to admit the experience so far has been “Awesome.” Nikolas favorite website to visit daily is TSN. If not in pro hockey today he feels he would be farming in his hometown where his family has a big cattle ranch. Kober’s favorite foods is steak and potatoes. A favorite sports movie is the hockey themed “Miracle.”

Following his playing days Nikolas wishes to be remembered as a good guy. “Someone everyone got along with.” Kober was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2014 NHL entry draft. Nikolas says it was “An awesome experience, lucky to happen to me.”
