The Missouri General Assembly has given final approval to legislation sponsored by State Rep. Jon Patterson that ensures the State of Missouri will continue its funding support for the Jackson County Sports Authority and Bartle Hall.

Representative Jon Patterson

Both the Jackson County Sports Authority and Bartle Hall are currently authorized to receive $3 million in state appropriations each year until 2021. Patterson’s legislation (HB 677) does not increase the funding amount, but simply ensures it will continue until 2031.

Patterson said it is important to provide state funds to the two regional assets because they produce significant tax returns for the state.

“I want to thank my colleagues in the House and Senate for supporting this legislation that demonstrates our willingness to compete with other states in the region to attract premier events. These events will draw visitors who will stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, and come back to visit more of our state’s attractions,” said Patterson, R-Lee’s Summit.

Patterson added, “I’m also hopeful that we can continue to improve the facilities and be named as a host site for the 2026 World Cup.”

The bill was approved by the House Wednesday morning and now heads to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
