The City of Lee’s Summit’s Human Relations Commission is encouraging community members to perform random and purposeful acts of kindness during a weeklong campaign known as “Take Time to Be Kind.” The campaign runs Feb. 10 through Feb. 16.

These small gestures – such as telling someone how much they mean to you or performing chores around the house – are easy ways to spread kindness and make a positive change in the community. To highlight how small gestures can make lasting impacts, community members are asked to share acts of kindness on social media using the hashtag #LSKindness.

Discussing the impact of kindness, Jamil Zaki, a psychology professor at Stanford University, noted, “An individual’s kindness can nonetheless trigger people to spread positivity in other ways…kindness evolves as it diffuses, ‘infecting’ behaviors through which new individuals can express it.”

It doesn’t take much to make someone’s day with a few kind words or actions. Help spread happiness, promote positivity and make a lasting impact on the Lee’s Summit community.
