LEE’S SUMMIT, MO— On Sunday, May 10, 2020, at 5:02 a.m. , the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 200 Block of SW 3rd Terrace. The residents were awakened by the smoke alarm and discovered a fire burning in the attic.

When the fire department arrived, nothing was visible from a one-story, single family residence. All occupants were outside.

Firefighters quickly controlled the fire in the attic after removing some of the ceiling to gain access. The attic required extensive overhaul to remove smoldering blown-in insulation. The fire was under control by 5:37 a.m.

The heaviest fire damage was in the attic over the utility room, and is where the fire is believed to have originated. Damage to the living area was minimal, except for the ceilings that were removed to access the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
