Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. this week announced that County offices are scheduled to reopen to the public in a limited capacity beginning on Monday, May 18.
Offices in the Jackson County Courthouse, 415 E. 12th Street in Kansas City, and the Historic Truman Courthouse, 112 W. Lexington in Independence, have been closed to the public to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
“I appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents during this unprecedented time. I’d also like to commend County staff for their flexibility and commitment to keep operations going as they worked from home,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “We ask for the public’s ongoing cooperation as we continue providing the highest level of customer service, knowing that as we move forward, protecting the health and well-bring of all customers and staff is our top priority.”
As county offices reopen, all staff and public visitors seeking in-person services are required to wear a mask, social distancing of at least six feet must be maintained and lobby areas or lines in each office space will be limited to 10 visitors or less as recommended by public health officials. Only the west doors of the downtown courthouse will be open for public access.
The County is also in the process of deep cleaning its facilities, installing plastic protective barriers for customer service staff and exploring the possibility of on-site temperature checks for visitors and staff to keep everyone safe.

Assessment Department

As a reminder, taxpayers can pay their taxes online, by mail, or by using exterior drop boxes located at the downtown and Truman courthouse locations.

Services by the Recorder of Deeds will be provided only at the Historic Truman Courthouse in Independence at this time. For recording and marriage information, please visit the department’s website. Jackson County Parks + Rec facilities, including the registration office, golf course, marinas and historic sites, will reopen on Saturday, May 16 in accordance with retail gathering guidelines. A mask will be required when entering any indoor Parks + Rec facility and social distancing should be maintained when using County parks and trails.
