Today, United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) joined with the AdHoc Group Against Crime, a Kansas City nonprofit promoting healing and justice, and Ring to announce a new partnership to promote and increase community safety measures in Kansas City.

To inaugurate the partnership, Ring and AdHoc will launch a program to donate 750 Ring Video Doorbells to local residents in Kansas City neighborhoods troubled by crime. The devices will be given to Kansas Citians who voluntarily apply to participate and will include free installation and a Ring Protect Basic subscription for the life of the devices.

“The people of Kansas City want to see community leaders work together to create a safer environment for everyone,” said Congressman Cleaver. “By teaming up with Ring and utilizing the latest technologies, AdHoc and I believe this community partnership will foster a higher level of comfort on the part of people who are living in neighborhoods where criminal acts are occurring far too frequently. As these resources begin to be distributed, I look forward to further discussions with Kansas Citians on additional ways in which we can make our community safer.”

After receiving input from various local stakeholders, including Congressman Cleaver and Neighborhood Presidents, Ring and AdHoc hosted a virtual roundtable to announce the creation of the video doorbell program and to discuss how technology can play a positive role in community safety. Congressman Cleaver participated in the roundtable along with several local leaders, including Damon Daniel, President of AdHoc; Marquita Brockman-Taylor, President of Santa Fe Neighborhood; and Jackson County Executive Frank White.

Overview of Video Doorbell Program:

• 750 Ring Video Doorbell devices will be donated at no cost to residents.
• The devices will be distributed to residents in select neighborhoods who voluntarily apply to participate in the program.
• The installation costs associated with the device will be covered by Ring.
• A Ring Protect Basic video recording subscription will be provided for the life of the device at no cost to residents.
• Residents who obtain devices will not be forced to register them with police.
