Having the chance to be coached by someone who has Super Bowl experience is a rare opportunity for a high school football player. This season the Lee’s Summit North Broncos football team will get that chance as many of them will be working with Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill.

Most of the time when someone with Super Bowl experience turns to coaching they are retired from pro football but Hill, heading into his fifth NFL season, is starting his coaching career while still an active player.

The idea of the 26-year-old Hill joining the LS North football program for the 2020 season began when Hill’s agent contacted LS North Head Coach Jamar Mozee to see if he would be interested in Hill helping out this year. It was then that Coach Mozee learned Hill wants to do this after his playing career comes to an end. Hill hopes to learn under the Broncos coaching staff while serving as a receivers coach.

Hill’s start at LS North started out quietly as Mozee came in to a room to start a coaches meeting and Hill was just sitting there, Mozee says, “Not everyone knew he was there.” Having Hill spend a number of summer conditioning practices with the team the Chiefs receiver has quickly became like family. For the players and coaching staff they have gotten used to having him around.

Mozee says, “Hill shows a great personality, has developed a good rapport with the kids.” Mozee adds, “The kids have gravitated to him. Hill’s personality has the kids listening to him.”

Up next for Hill and the LS North football team will find Hill serving as a volunteer coach during the upcoming season. Hill will be with the team for practices on Mondays and Tuesdays. Then return on Friday nights for the team’s games. Mozee says Hill is very involved with the team even during the KC Chiefs training camp currently underway at Arrowhead Stadium. Hill has been texting the staff for updates on the Broncos team now that their pre-season practices have started.

Mozee says he keeps to a small circle but he has heard some outsiders feel Hill’s involvement is a PR stunt and that’s why he is doing it. Mozee finds Hill really is interested in becoming a coach some day and is getting started in the city he currently calls home.

Hill’s first chance to see how much the Broncos receivers are learning is when the LS North Broncos begin their 2020 season at home on Friday, Aug., 28. The Broncos play host to the Blue Springs South Jaguars. Don’t be surprised if a number of fans are not only watching the action on the field but also an assistant coach on the sideline.
