The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 12 to celebrate the commencement of Bond 2020 work at the district’s new, fourth middle school.

Following 82.2% of voters approving the district’s $224 million no tax rate increase bond issue on June 2, 2020, multiple projects to benefit the LSR7 school community are well underway.

In collaboration with partners DLR Group and McCownGordon Construction, the fourth middle school is scheduled to open for the 2022-2023 school year. Located on 48-acres, SE Bailey Road and Country Lane, the 100,000 square-foot school is designed to provide a flexible and collaborative learning environment. Sliding doors and movable walls will future-proof the building to allow easy program changes.

The groundbreaking ceremony followed social distancing and mask guidelines, and was by invitation only. The district expressed their gratitude for the teams, partners and community members who helped and are helping to bring these plans to fruition.
