Summit Christian Academy (SCA) Head of School Linda Harrelson recently announced her retirement to the SCA faculty, staff and community. Her term will expire in the summer of 2021.

“From the start, I have held the SCA Head of School position with an open hand, asking the Lord to reveal His will each year,” shared Mrs. Harrelson. “Much in the way He made it clear that I was to begin my time here, He has shown me that this will be my last year to serve as your head of school.”

Harrelson has served as SCA’s Head of School since January 1999. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and as the Chair of the ACSI Finance Committee. Locally she is a member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, serves on the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council Board, and is a member of the Lee’s Summit Civic Roundtable. In 2018, she was named an “Icon of Education” by Ingram’s Magazine.

“SCA has been abundantly blessed by God since opening its doors in 1989,” shared SCA Board President Don Bisbee. “Through the past three decades, we have built wonderful relationships with our covenant churches, had amazing educators grace our classrooms, and have witnessed academic and spiritual growth in more than 10,000 students. God has sent many strong and capable individuals to lead our school in various capacities, and for the past two decades, Harrelson is one of those amazing leaders! She is many things to the people of our community and to our school – but beyond all the roles she plays, a follower of Christ is first. Her love for God leads her decisions and focus everyday and can be felt in any and all interactions with her. She is the embodiment of servant leadership, and we are so thankful for that.”

To lead the search and transition process, the SCA Board of Education has retained a nationally recognized search firm that specializes in leadership of Christian schools. The leadership team has already begun the initial work with the firm and hopes to announce the new SCA Head of School during the first quarter of 2021.

The Board of Education and Harrelson are pleased to announce that Harrelson will continue to serve SCA in various capacities. She will also continue representing SCA on the national stage as a board member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

“It has been my greatest honor and privilege to serve the SCA community as the Head of School,” shared Harrelson. “I believe God is already preparing my replacement – someone who will lead SCA into a future we cannot begin to imagine. I believe SCA’s best years are yet to come!”
