The City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department will hold a free recycling collection and paper shred event on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Rd. RecycleFEST allows the community to properly dispose of a variety of unique materials and hard-to-recycle items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.

RecycleFEST collects materials that can be recycled, reused and refurbished. Recycling instead of disposing of these items in the trash conserves natural resources, reduces harm to the environment and saves landfill space.

Accepted items for recycling include cell phones, license plates, athletic shoes, tennis balls, golf balls, keys, wine corks, eyeglasses, hearing aids, adult bicycles, crayons and prescription pill bottles (empty with labels removed). The public can also bring up to four paper grocery sacks of documents for shredding at no cost. Paper clips and staples do not need to be removed but plastic covers and binders will not be accepted.
