Summit Technology Academy Digital Electronics and Aerospace Engineering teacher Hope MacKenzie is one of 59 teachers selected across the U.S. to have earned the 2022-23 Outstanding Project Lead the Way Teacher award.

The award recognizes educators who demonstrate a strong record of delivering an inspiring and empowering student experience, while expanding access to Project Lead the Way (PLTW) programs, and transforming teaching.

PLTW is honoring MacKenzie for her work in the PLTW Engineering program. MacKenzie has been a teacher in Lee’s Summit for eight years and developed the Aerospace Engineering course in 2016.

MacKenzie was one of the 2022 Excellence in Teaching recipients, recognized by the district for her positive impact on students. She established Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, inviting girls from each LSR7 middle school to STA for the day to learn about engineering from her students and professional engineers.

“PLTW educators do incredible work facilitating learning experiences that help inspire and prepare students to reach their full potential. This award acknowledges and recognizes their accomplishments in continuing that mission,” stated Dr. David Dimmett, PLTW Interim President and CEO. “We congratulate them and are proud of the work these educational leaders do to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond the classroom, no matter what career path they choose.”
