The Lee’s Summit City Council met August 13 to discuss these issues.

Purchase of New Ambulances
An ordinance approving a lease-purchase financing agreement between the City and Clayton Holdings, LLC for new ambulances was approved by council. The Lee’s Summit Fire Department is requesting nine new ambulances for $3.7 million with state-of-the-art equipment.

Purchase of Traffic Enforcement Motorcycles
City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the purchase of three BMW traffic enforcement vehicles for the Lee’s Summit Police Department Traffic Division for $90,957.66. The three motorcycles would replace three existing BMW motorcycles that are reaching end of life.

Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Award
Council approved an ordinance authorizing the City and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding for the use of Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area award funds.

The City will receive $76,572 in exchange for designating one Lee’s Summit police officer to the Kansas City/Overland Park DEA Task Force. The funds are awarded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in the region comprised of the states of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota to combat the manufacture and importation of methamphetamine and the disruption of poly-drug trafficking organizations. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is the designated fiscal agent for award proceeds.

The next meeting is August 20.
