Brandon Leary, a 2016 graduate of Lee’s Summit North High School, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. Brandon was formally presented the Eagle Scout award in a Court of Honor ceremony on May 21st.

He began scouting in 2004 as a Tiger with Cub Scout Pack 284 in Heidelberg, Germany where his father was stationed with the US Army. While a Cub Scout in Germany, Brandon and his Pack were privileged enough to visit many WWII historical sites; Meuse Argonne and Normandy in France, Bastogne in Belgium, and Hürtgen Forest in Germany. He progressed through each rank and earned his Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts, before crossing over into Boy Scouts.

After crossing over into Troop 4 in Heidelberg, Germany in 2009, his father was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Brandon joined Troop 149, the local troop on the post. Unfortunately the troop was slowly dissolving, so a year later Brandon joined Troop 202 in Waynesville, MO where he reached the rank of Life. After his father retired from the Army, the family moved to Lee’s Summit in 2012 where he joined Troop 366. Brandon has served in leadership positions of Scribe, Historian, Librarian, Instructor, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. His Eagle Scout Project benefited the faith-based nonprofit Coldwater located in Lee’s Summit. Their food pantry needed sturdy shelves to hold the many donations that citizens provide to help those in need. He led a group of Scouts and adults in building 3 large shelving units which significantly increased the amount of supplies the pantry could store.

Brandon has participated in multiple Troop, District, and Council Campouts and Merit Badge Universities. He earned his trained badge in 2011 by attending National Youth Leadership Training. He has attended summer camp at Camp Freedom in Dautphe, Germany and Oberdachstetten, Germany; Camp Arrowhead in Marshfield, MO; and H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Osceola, MO. In 2013 he attended the National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in Jean, WV. In 2015 Brandon was selected to serve in a Staff position for all summer camp sessions at H. Roe Bartle.

He was elected into BSA’s National Honor Society, Order of the Arrow, and completed his Ordeal with the Wah-Sha-She Lodge at Camp Arrowhead in 2010. He completed his Brotherhood in 2012.

He also was conferred membership into local honor societies Tribe of Lone Bear in 2010 and Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 2014.

Brandon continues to participate in Scouting with Venturing Crew 221 and in a leadership role with Troop 366. This summer he is attending Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, BSA’s largest national High Adventure Base.

He graduated from Lee’s Summit North High School this year with perfect attendance. He was awarded the Technology Student of the Year Award. His FBLA team won District and competed in state for their Web Design project they submitted. Brandon plans on attending Longview Community College in the fall.
