The City of Lee’s Summit and Lee’s Summit Fire Department held a groundbreaking ceremony at John Knox Village recently for the new Fire Station No. 3. Thanks go out to all of the city staff, elected officials, appointed officials, private partners and citizens that came out on a sunny November day to help start a project that will enhance the future delivery of fire department services in an already busy service area.

The new facility will be located north of the existing station, just west of Pryor Road and Shamrock Avenue. The 16,000-square-foot station will have four apparatus bays separate bunk rooms and additional work space for the existing crew. The size of the station will allow for the addition of personnel and apparatus in the future as the district continues to develope and place additional demands on services.

The replacement of Station #3 was approved by voters as part of a 2016 “No-tax increase” General Obligation Bond to fund public safety improvements. The land for the station in the area of Pryor Road and Shamrock Avenue was provided as part of a public/private partnership with John Knox Village. When completed in late 2019, the station will provide a modern facility to serve all of Lee’s Summit and a rapidly developing west side.
