Lee’s Summit CARES is tackling an important topic for families in today’s constantly plugged-in world at a one-hour workshop called Screen Time and the Developing Brain. The course, offered through the organization’s Positive Parenting Practices, will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at Great Beginnings Early Education Center, 905 NE Bluestem Drive, Lee’s Summit.

On average, children now spend six to eight hours in front of an electronic screen. At the workshop, parents will learn about the risks and challenges children face in our technologically evolving world. Also included will be strategies and tools to help parents ensure that their children are progressing in a safe and healthy manner.

The workshop will be presented by Dr. Gary Boxer, a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist at Truman Medical Center Lakewood Counseling. This program is available thanks to a partnership with Lakewood Counseling.
