Middle school students from around the Raytown School District will participate in a middle school STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) event for western Missouri at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) in Warrensburg on March 25. This event is designed to provide STEAM-related experiences and opportunities through hands-on activities designed and facilitated by area business/industry representatives and UCM’s faculty and staff.

Raytown School District Director of Instructional Technology Melissa Tebbenkamp will serve as the keynote speaker at the UCM Middle School STEAM Event. Tebbenkamp received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in educational technology in from UCM. Since joining Raytown Quality Schools in 2006, Tebbenkamp is a certified education technology leader by the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN). She serves on the CoSN national board of directors and was founding member and past chair of CoSN’s state chapter. As a leader and national expert on student data privacy, she currently serves as co-chair of the CoSN Student Data Privacy working group as a member on the CoSN Cybersecurity committee. Recently, she has consulted with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Education on the impact of national policy on schools and online instructional tools and has led several workshops aimed at helping schools and districts improve their data governance programs. She is a member of the Missouri Education Technology Leaders Board. She also served as moderator and creator of Missouri’s Educational Technology Professional Learning Community.

The UCM Middle School STEAM is sponsored through a partnership with the University of Central Missouri’s College of Education, the Kansas City Regional Professional Development Center, and the Central Missouri Regional Professional Development Center.
