A Greenwood man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Kimberly Renee Alcorn, who was found by sheriff’s deputies inside her residence in the 13000 block of South Harris Road in Greenwood, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Dana C. Jones, dob: 1/16/1975, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Assault 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Jackson County sheriff’s deputies responding to a reported shooting attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the residence in the 13000 block of S. Harris Road.
The vehicle fled and the deputies pursued it until it collided with a tree. The driver, later identified as the defendant, was taken into custody. Inside the residence, deputies found the victim and a pit bull. Both had been shot. Witnesses in the home where the shooting occurred said the defendant and the vicitm had been in a verbal argument.
They became concerned about the welfare of the victim and one resident, who lived in the basement, went upstairs with the dog. Gunshots rang out. When a second resident went to observe the wounded dog, she also saw the defendant with a gun and he fired shots at her.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
