The Raytown Blue Jays scored 19 unanswered fourth quarter points to beat William Chrisman 26-7 Friday night in a Missouri Class 5, District 7 playoff game. The Blue Jays entered the game coming off from a two-week layoff and it showed as the team’s slow start found the team trailing 7-0 after the first quarter. The visiting Bears found the end zone with 6:02 left in the quarter thanks to a 21 yard touchdown pass from QB Siaosi Nauer to Ray Covington.

The Bears wouldn’t score again as the Blue Jays tied the game at 7 just before halftime on a 49-yard strike from QB Joe Campbell to D’Vontae Key with 1:32 left. The play capped just a one-play scoring drive which was set up on the play before by Joe Campbell’s interception at midfield.

A scoreless third quarter meant the fourth and final quarter began with the teams still tied at 7. The first play of the quarter saw Dontae Manning run 14 yards for a touchdown giving the Blue Jays their first lead of the game at 13-7. The point after attempt was blocked keeping the score at 13-7 for the moment. Six minutes later the Blue Jays found the end zone again thanks to a 31-yard touchdown pass from Campbell to Key making it 19-7. A two point conversion failed, keeping the score the same but not for long. Another Raytown interception with 4:25 left ended a Bears threat. One play later a 28-yard touchdown pass from Campbell to key made it 26-7 Raytown.

Friday night’s win gives Raytown an 8-2 record in 2019 and advances them to the Class 5, District 7 Championship game next week. The Blue Jays will play at Fort Osage who won 46-12 over Truman. Earlier this season Raytown lost to Fort Osage 32-28. The game on Friday night will kick off at 7 p.m.
