Your Lee’s Summit Firefighter Association is proud to endorse the following candidates for the upcoming City Council election on April 7, 2020:

1st District-Hillary Shields
Hillary Shields is focused on preserving the character of our city while promoting responsible growth. Mrs. Shields recognizes the importance of expanding public safety with the growth of the city to ensure services don’t decline. Over the last 10 years Mrs. Shields has opened her home as a host parent for foreign exchange students and been a been vocal advocate for the citizens in the 1st district. Mrs. Shields has shown a willingness to engage with her community and understands the rigorous requirements of serving as a councilmember.

2nd District-Tim Shrout
Mr. Shrout has a long history of community involvement and currently serves as a Lee’s Summit TIF Commissioner, Lee’s Summit Ignite Committee member, and as a Board Member for local business Developing Potential among many other ventures. Mr. Shrout has previously served as a participant or facilitator with the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Lee’s Summit, the Lee’s Summit Arts Council, and the Lee’s Summit Rotary Club. He has shown a drive to serve his fellow citizens and ensure the City of Lee’s Summit remains a safe, thriving place to live. Mr. Shrout understands the importance of balancing the growth and development of a city with the capabilities of a public safety core and its infrastructure, pledging to resolve the issues facing the city with civility and commitment.

3rd District-Phyllis Edson
While serving on Council, Councilmember Edson earned her Certified Municipal Official designation through the Missouri Municipal League. Prior to serving on Council, she graduated from the City’s Citizen Leadership Academy and Chamber’s Leadership Lee’s Summit. She currently serves on the Summit Art Board and has served on Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation, Lee’s Summit North Music Parents and PTA. During the last four years Councilmember Edson has fought to improve public safety and her vote assisted in getting two replacement fire stations on a no tax increase bond, one of which will be in the 3rd district.

4th District-Fred DeMoro
Councilmember DeMoro has served district 4 well over the last 3 years by making himself available to his constituents and being pragmatic in tackling challenges. He brings a calmness to the council dais by using a level headed approach to work through issues. Councilmember DeMoro’s experiences with numerous other committees in the city have made him a true asset to city council and the constituents he serves. Previously, Councilmember DeMoro served on the Lee’s Summit Planning Commission for 7 years. He also participated in the 2016-2017 Charter Review. Currently, Councilmember DeMoro is the liaison to the Public Safety Advisory Board.

These candidates have displayed strong leadership skills in addition to unwavering support to public safety. Their added value will be an asset to the Council and community with the overall goal of a thriving and successful Lee’s Summit.
