July 9, 2020

This is the email that went out to the LSR7 families tonight.

Good evening, LSR7 Families:

We hope your summer has been healthy and safe so far. As the school year draws closer, we wanted to provide you with an update in regards to sharing our plans for reopening school in the fall.

A week from today, district leaders will present preliminary plans regarding the upcoming school year to the Board of Education at our July 16, 2020 work session.

On the following day, July 17, 2020, we will be providing additional information about our plan to reopen schools safely, as well as the learning options we will be providing to families.

While we will be providing detailed plans next week, we want to be clear that we intend to offer families choice between an all-online school option and traditional in-person learning in school environments bolstered with safety and prevention measures.

Our K-12 online options will be offered through our R-7 Online Academy program, in which classes align with our curriculum standards and provide grading and instruction that reflect the rigor and expectations of our in-person instruction. This program will not feel similar to the emergency virtual learning students engaged in this spring.

Our in-person school plans must be flexible and include multiple scenarios to allow us to provide every student the learning experience that they need while complying with evolving public health guidance. We’ll continue our partnership with county and state officials, as well as districts throughout the metro area, as we move forward with a mission of providing education in the safest way possible.

Again, we will share our plan to reopen schools safely this fall, as well as the details of our K-12 in-person and online school options for students, on July 17, 2020. Pre-K families will also receive information about plans for next year at this time.

The following week families will receive directions on how to select the all-online option so that the district can address staffing needs prior to the start of the school year. It’s also important to remember that LSR7 Registration opens on July 29. It is important that all families participate in registration, regardless of what learning option they might choose next year. Find more information here.

Thank you for your patience as we make preparations for a safe and healthy school year this fall. We understand these decisions are important and while we are eager to share more information with you next week, we want to reinforce that we are committed to providing options that allow families to make the educational decisions that are best for their families.

Best,

Katy Bergen, Executive Director of Public Relations
