The Lee’s Summit Fire Department moved into the newly constructed Fire Station No. 3 on Aug. 6. The new station is located at 2023 NW Shamrock Ave.

Voters approved the replacement of Fire Station No. 3 as part of no-tax-increase bond question in 2016 to fund public safety improvements. The previous station was built in 1971 and no longer met the needs of the department. The new Fire Station No. 3 is located north of the existing station, west of Pryor Road and Shamrock Avenue. The City acquired the land as part of a public/private partnership with John Knox Village.

“It has been very exciting coming to an organization that the personnel have put so much thought and effort in not only solving for today but also tomorrow. The new Fire Station 3 truly reflects their efforts and is only one example of many of the exemplary work that is completed day in and day out by the entire department”, said Fire Chief Mike Snider.

The 16,000-square-foot facility features four apparatus bays with additional bunk rooms and work space, which will allow the department to grow in the future to meet service demands. The modern facility will serve all of Lee’s Summit and a rapidly developing west side.

The Lee’s Summit Fire Department is grateful to the citizens of Lee’s Summit for their continued support of public safety initiatives. A virtual ribbon cutting and open house are planned for late August due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
