Mayor Bill Baird, Fire Chief Mike Snider and other city officials gathered Thursday, March 21, to celebrate the opening of the newly construction Firestation #5, located at 801 SW Lemans Lane. Fire department employees, retirees, city employees and many area residents attended the ceremony and toured the facility.

The 12,100-square-foot station will have three apparatus bays, a decontamination area, a meeting room, separate sleeping quarters and more.

Station #5 is one of two stations being replaced as part of a voter approved August 2019 no tax increase bond initiative that provided $10.5 million for land acquisition, architect and contractor fees and construction.

City officials have invited the public to celebrate the opening of Station #4, 5301 NE Lakewood Way, April 4, at 11 a.m.

The stations, which have identical designs, provide modern facilities to support firefighters so they can meet the future public safety needs of the citizens of Lee’s Summit.
