City Council heard a presentation on a rebranding proposal for the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport (LXT) and its Fixed Base Operator. Airport operations have grown significantly and the current name no longer reflects the current function and capabilities of the airport or the area it serves. The 2022 LXT Business Plan recommended a name change as the “municipal” label is perceived by many corporate aviators as inferior regardless of the actual quality of service. Rebranding the airport would enhance the airport’s reputation and attract and retain desirable corporate clients.

The airport surveyed customers, stakeholders and the NBAA schedulers and dispatchers to get feedback on rebranding the FBO and airport. After considering input, the Board of Aeronautical Engineers recommended the airport be rebranded Greater Kansas City Regional and the FBO be named Summit Aero.
