Robert Dale “Bob” Shaffer passed away peacefully June 19, 2016, at the age of 64. He was born October 21, 1951, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Arthur Dale Shaffer and Virginia Ruth (Fisher) Shaffer.

Bob moved to Kansas City, Missouri with his mother when he was 5. Their home overheard the nightly music from Milton’s Tap Room where he picked up his love for Jazz. He attended Norman Elementary, and moved up to Westport High School where he graduated in the Class of 1969. In 1968 he met the love of his life, Barbara Denice Bunten from Southwest High School, Class of 1969, while bowling at King Louie East. They married on August 27, 1971 at Westport Presbyterian Church. They started their lives together at 35th and Jefferson in Kansas City, then moved to Grandview where they lived for over 31 years. In 1980, they had one child, Michael Aron Shaffer, with whom Bob shared his love of baseball, the Royals and the Cubs, and spent weekends camping with Boy Scout Troop 338. Bob and Barbara moved to Lee’s Summit in 2006 where they lived until his passing.

In his senior year of high school, Bob worked with Plaza Theaters as a night manager. After graduating, he joined Abbey-Simons as a receiving clerk. He worked his way, over 34 years, up to installation specialist before forming his own independent contracting business, R SHAFFER LLC, for the remaining 12 years of his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; step-father, Howard Stevenin; and uncle, Kenneth O’Neil. He is survived by his wife Barbara; son, Michael (Michelle), Grandview, MO; grandchildren, Alexander and Andrew; mother, Virginia Stevenin of Lee’s Summit, MO; aunt, Annamae O’Neal; cousins Patricia Ann Houser, Deborah Kay Childers, Keneth O’Neal, and Terry O’Neal; and half-brother Michael Shaffer.

A memorial for Bob will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 30 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit, 1625 NW O’Brien Rd. Lee’s Summit, MO.
