Robert Jay Hurt, 46 of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, MO.
Rob was born December 31, 1969 to Jerry and Linda (Rasmussen) Hurt in San Diego, CA. He grew up in the Council Bluffs, IA area and graduated in 1988 from Underwood Community High School, Underwood, IA.
After graduation Rob worked in Omaha, NE at Physician’s Mutual. Rob relocated to the Kansas City area with his parents and attended the Law Enforcement Academy at Missouri Western State University where he graduated in 1999.
Upon graduating Rob joined the Excelsior Springs, MO Police Department and worked there until leaving in 2001 to join the Lee’s Summit, MO Police Department where he worked until his death.
While with Lee’s Summit, Rob worked in the Patrol Division where part of his time was spent on bike patrol as a Bicycle Instructor. In 2012, Rob moved to the Traffic Unit where he became certified as an Accident Reconstructionist and a Master Police Officer. Rob’s proudest achievement in his law enforcement career was becoming a Motor Officer.
Rob’s friendly outgoing personality always put a smile on the face of everyone he encountered. He will always be remembered for his unwavering friendship and desire to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Rob had a love for old trinkets and working on things.
One of his favorite pastimes was spent Geocaching with his boys. Rob was a loving and devoted husband and father.
Rob was united in marriage to Janell Rae Allen on June 1, 2002 in Excelsior Springs, MO.
Rob was preceded in death by his older brother, Kevin Hurt and his grandfathers, Daniel Hurt, Junior Rasmussen, and Paul Shaw.
Rob is survived by his wife, Janell, of the home, along with their three children, Keagan, Landon, & Camryn; grandmothers, Mary Rasmussen of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Betty Shaw of Red Oak, Iowa; Parents, Jerry and Linda Hurt of Plattsburg, MO; Siblings, Joe Hurt (Cassandra) of Littleton, CO; Tim Hurt (Brianne) of Newberry, FL; and Jennifer Vernon (Garret) of Fairfax, MO; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 27th from 2 to 4 p.m. at Abundant Life Baptist Church 304 SW Persels Road, Lee’s Summit, MO.
A Celebration of Life Service will follow the visitation.
