A late season addition is now trying to make a name for himself in his first full season of pro hockey. Jared VanWormer has been putting his name in the score sheet so far this 2017-18 season, showing his promise for a bright future in the sport with the Kansas City Mavericks.

The 25-year-old forward is a hit in the locker room and has earned the nickname “Worms.” Worms loves the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings and that’s largely due to his hometown being Traverse City, Michigan. Jared’s family is still there rooting him on from home. Worms’ favorite hockey memory so far is getting a scholarship at Ferris State and then being named Captain his senior year.

Jared first put on a pair of skates at the age of four. This was thanks to his dad, a dedicated fan of the sport. If not in pro hockey today, Worms feels he would be playing baseball or owning his own food truck business. On those long bus rides in the ECHL Jared loves to sleep or watch a movie. Speaking of movies, Worms favorite sports movie is “Miracle.”

Following his playing days, Jared wishes to be remembered for his work ethic, and he tries to be the “hardest worker everyday.” Worms’ favorite part of KC so far is the Drumm Farm Golf club. Jared enjoys exchanging his hockey sticks for some golf clubs in his down time.

Check out Worms and his teammates when they host the Allen American on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 4:05 p.m.
