LS R-7 has launched the introduction of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Dr. Dennis Carpenter is looking to engage students in the larger conversation.

They are asking LS R-7 students: are you built to recognize your authentic self, think about the world as it should be and initiate purposeful action?

Do you want to contribute to the vision of the Lee’s Summit School District and design purposeful projects with the Superintendent?

The district feels that students’ voices are important to the story of the schools and they are looking for those voices to make an impact.

All middle school and high school students who are passionate about their school’s growth and passionate about contributing to purposeful projects that impact the future of the schools are encouraged to apply.

The Student Advisory Council will meet with Dr. Carpenter once a month at the Stansberry Leadership Center, and it is an opportunity for students to offer guidance and feedback directly to the superintendent in an informal and project-driven forum. Council members should be willing to collaborate at each of these meetings and develop projects devoted to one or more of the district’s goals. Each of these projects will result in a presentation to the Board of Education at the Board meetings in December and April. Transportation to and from the council meetings will be provided for our students. Meetings will occur during the school day with lunch provided.

The council’s first project will be to name, logo and brand its council identity. More information, along with the application, can be found the district website at lsr7.org.
