Virginia Carol Combs nee Melton, a long-time Lee’s Summit MO resident, passed away Tuesday Sept 4, 2018, at home. Carol was born in Frew, KY in 1942. She graduated from MC Napier High School in 1960.

After high school, Carol studied cosmetology at the Hellems School of Beauty and Culture in Louisville, KY. Carol attended college at Webster University majoring in Business Administration. She received a paralegal certificate from Rockhurst University. She lived in 5 states including Kentucky, Virginia, Alabama, West Virginia, and Missouri.

Carol retired in 2007 as a Teacher’s Aide in the Moberly School District. She loved working with young children. Prior to education, Carol worked at the Excel Pork Plant in Marshall, MO and Stringer’s Utility Safety Supply in Lee’s Summit, MO, where she was a textile supervisor. Earlier in her life she worked briefly as a cosmetologist and was a housewife. Carol was active in her church, Lee’s Summit Presbyterian, and volunteered making visits to nursing home residents and helping refill the pew pads. She also served many years as a minister’s wife at various churches in Missouri and West Virginia, teaching several Sunday school classes.

She loved good food, going on senior bank trips, sewing projects, jigsaw puzzles, collecting Coke memorabilia, reading, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.

Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wayne Combs, of the home; daughter, Christin (David) Whitehead, of Wright Head, MO; sister Dana Chyrl (Danny) Akers, of West Liberty, KY; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation was held Friday from 1-2pm at First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit, MO. Services followed at 2pm and burial in West Union Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, MO.
