The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department launched a new practice in August that has resulted in a reduction of non-compliant sex offenders in Jackson County, MO.

The new practice was formed to raise awareness and take a proactive approach regarding sex offender registration. This new practice has resulted in the following:

291 fail to register reports
520 citations for failing to register as a sex offender
62 warrants for failing to register as a sex offender

Furthermore, the new practice has also resulted in over 20 non-compliant sex offenders registering and determined that 14 formally non- compliant sex offenders were incarcerated, deceased or have relocated to another state. Overall, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department has had a 1.6 % reduction of non-compliant sex offenders in Jackson County, MO since August.

“Although the numbers aren’t where we want them to be, we have made tremendous strides from where we began,” said Interim Sheriff Darryl Forté. “I’m extremely proud of the dedicated civilian and sworn members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department who have and continue to work tirelessly around the clock to protect the vulnerable and make our community safe. We will continue to proactively ensure that all sex offenders in Jackson County, MO are in compliance with the law.”
