Bells for Peace

On Nov. 11, Americans will toll the bells at 11:00 a.m. local time in remembrance of those who served and sacrificed during World War I. The Bells of Peace project calls for a national bell-tolling to commemorate the centennial of the war’s end. The armistice began at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

There is even an app you can download to join the tolling of the bells: you can find it for free in the Apple and Android stores or by visiting www.ww1cc.org/app. The app includes a variety of bell sounds, a countdown to the planned toll, educational resources about the war and photo-sharing capabilities.

The campaign is sponsored by the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission, Washington National Cathedral and the Society of the Honor Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and is supported nationwide by municipalities, veterans’ organizations, schools, religious institutions, museums and more.
Join us on Sunday and #TollTheBell.
