Downtown Lee’s Summit sits just twenty-five minutes southeast of Downtown Kansas City. Over a hundred and fifty years ago, Lee’s Summit was incorporated as an 11 block plat of land. It was named the Town of Strother.

The area grew slow and steady but always kept their local roots. A group of local business owners collaborated and found it was necessary to create a brand for their Downtown, now known as The Strother District. The original plat of land where the Town of Strother began is the same spot The Strother District now stands. With consistent growth plus the ups and downs of the economy, The Strother District has become a strong local entertainment community. Not only are we here for our community, but we are creating a destination spot for people who live in the extended metro area.

The Strother District is driven by local businesses, loyal customers and a lively atmosphere, where friends, family and out of towners gather. The Strother District offers it all. It is a place you can taste the newest beer creation or be hidden away in a quiet speakeasy cocktail bar. You can meet a veteran or find a hand-rolled cigar. The place you can hear live music, team up for trivia nights and discover a wine tasting. You can eat BBQ in an old gas station, a slice of pizza or locally made ice cream all within walking distance of each other. And of course, start your day with a latte.

Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, catching up with old friends, having a business meeting or need somewhere to make Tuesday a little better, try a spot in The Strother District.

With the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, November 16th, we plan to make it known we are The Strother District.
