Captain Scott A. Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the kickoff of the 16th Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive. The toy drive will begin on November 16, 2018, and will run through December 12, 2018.

The Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive is the cooperative effort of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Murphy-Hoffman Company (Kenworth), Summit Homes, Molle Chevrolet in Blue Springs, MO, Midwest Elite Academy, and the citizens we serve. The drive is designed to bring smiles to the faces of children who are forced to spend the Christmas holiday season in the hospital. All donations to the toy drive will be delivered to children at Children’s Mercy Hospital, KU Medical Center, and the Ronald McDonald House. Troopers will deliver the toys personally to the children during the month of December.

Toy donations may be made at all metro Summit Homes models; Molle Chevrolet in Blue Springs; Troop A, Lee’s Summit, MO; or Troop A, Olathe, KS. Donations of electronic games, board games, and new children’s books are encouraged. This annual toy drive honors Trooper Michael L. Newton, who died in the line of duty in 2003. His death left a huge void in the lives of his family, friends, and co-workers.

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
