The 2018-19 season has started off fast for the Kansas City Mavericks thanks largely to their core of forwards. The Mavericks have been out shooting and out scoring their opponents on their way to the best start in franchise history at 9-1-1.

While many of the forwards are familiar names to Mavericks fans, that is not the case for a young Mike Panowyk. Pano, as his new teammates call him, is in his first full year as a pro hockey player. Mike played in five games with the South Carolina Stingrays in spring of 2018 after finishing his college career at Colgate University.

Pano’s favorite pro sports team is the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs who play their home games just 45 minutes away from where Mike grew up. Pano’s hometown is Whitby Ontario where his parents, along with three older sisters, are there rooting him on from home. Mike’s favorite hockey memory so far was when he made the ECAC finals in 2015 while playing at Colgate.

Pano first put on a pair of skates at the age of three. Being from Canada it should come as no surprise that his dad was the one who got him started in the sport of hockey. Mike’s favorite website to visit every day is YouTube mainly for its videos. If not in pro hockey today Pano feels he would be in finance like the stock market.

The 23-year old’s favorite foods is steak and salmon. No word yet if he has found a favorite steak place in the KC area. Mike’s favorite sports movie is “Remember the Titans.” The left-handed forward wishes to be remembered following his playing days as a guy who worked hard on the ice and is always positive with his teammates.

Check out Pano and his new team mates when the Mavericks return to home ice on Friday, Nov. 30 to host the Tulsa Oilers. The fun begins inside the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena when the puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
