James “Jim” Patrick Burns, 77, a resident of Raytown, MO, formerly of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City.  He was born on March 7, 1941 in El Dorado, KS to Michael and Pauline (Mannion) Burns.

Jim served his country proudly in the United States Army as a Staff Sgt. in the 28th Air Born.  He was stationed at Fort Brag, North Carolina. He was united in marriage to Mary Dearinger on March 18, 1967 in Wichita, KS.  

Jim spent the majority of his working career in banking.  

He was vice president at Farmers Trust and later Midland Bank both in Lee’s Summit.  

Jim was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.  

He was very active in the community of Lee’s Summit, serving on several committees such as Downtown Lee’s Summit, Business and Industry Show in Lee’s Summit, and was a member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, including being a former President and Treasurer.  For many years Jim also devoted his time to the American Red Cross as a volunteer.

Survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Burns of Raytown, MO; daughter, Mary Beth Rybowicz (Matt) of Lee’s Summit, MO and their children, Ben, Emily and Lauren Rybowicz, sons, John Burns (Jennifer) of Blue Springs, MO and their children, Michael Adriano and Deigan (Olivia) Burns, Michael Burns (Sarah) of Pleasant Hill, MO and their children, Evan and Meredith Burns; sister, Kathleen (Albert) Kaine of Overland Park, KS.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Pauline Burns; brother, Thomas Burns.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 N.W. Murray Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO.  

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m., prior to mass.  Inurnment will immediately follow mass at Blue Springs Cemetery.  

The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Saint Luke’s Foundation benefiting the Gottlieb Heart Failure and Transplant Center at Saint Luke’s Hospital at 901 E. 104th Street, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64131 or atwww.saintlukesgiving.org/tributes.
