November 16, 1995 ~ April 28, 2019

Dwane D. Simmons, 23, passed away on April 28, 2019 in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on November 10, 1995 to the union of Navarro D. Simmons and Chaquilla (Williams) Simmons in Kansas City, Kansas. 

As a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, he was educated in the public schools of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He attended Summit Lakes Middle School, where he was a member of the track team. After middle school he attended Lee’s Summit West High School, where he was active in the sports program and was a cornerback for the schools 2013 State Champion football team. He also ran track and held the school record in the 400-meter relay and the 4×4 relay. Following graduation in the Lee’s Summit West class of 2014, Dwane enrolled in Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas and was a member of the football team. He was slated to graduate in the fall of 2019.

Dwane accepted Christ at an early age and attended Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church as a young child. He later attended Faith Deliverance Church of God In Christ.

Dwane was a funny, loving young man who always greeted others with that big smile. He was a joy to be around and was the life of the party. He was caring son, grandson, brother, nephew and friend who will be sincerely missed by his family, classmates, coaches and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Navarro D. Simmons (Yasmine) of Lee’s Summit,  MO; mother, Chaquilla Everett (Corey) of Kansas City, MO; three brothers, Navarro D. Simmons, Jr., ChristianMichael Simmons of Lee’s Summit, MO and Jamon Buford II, U.S. Navy-Chicago, IL; two sisters, Damesha Simmons and Saryah Buford of Lee’s Summit, MO; paternal grandparents, LaToyce Lee (Reginald) of Kansas City, MO and Jimmie Williams of Kansas City, MO; maternal grandparents, Walter Williams, Sr. (Marquita) of Kansas City, MO and Monica Johnson of Kansas City, MO; paternal great grandmother, Loretta Simmons; maternal great grandmother, Joann Ashley and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, May 4, 11:00 a.m. at Abundant Life Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared by visiting: duaneharveyfuneraldirectors.com
