Richard McMeins, 89 of Mount Ayr, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Mount Ayr Nursing Home. Cremation, with memorial services to be held 11:00 am Monday, February 17, 2020 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009). A visitation will also be held Monday, February 17, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service, also at the chapel. Inurnment will follow the services in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missouri. Richard Frazier McMeins was born December 25th, 1930 in Merwin Missouri. He was the only child of the late Frazier McMeins and Pauline McMeins Bourland, and Ray Bourland his stepfather. Richard graduated from Drexel high school in 1949. He married Ila Fay Gregory of Amsterdam, MO on May 28th of 1949. They have been married 70 wonderful years.
Richard was in the United States Airforce for four years. He trained in Biloxi Mississippi in 1951. Radar tech school in 1952. He was sent overseas later in 1952 for 18 months. He returned to the USA in 1953 and was stationed in Sacramento California as an airborne radar. He was the crew chief on the super constellation EC-121 and the 252ND ACW-C wing. They flew the pacific coast to protect the USA. He was discharged December 6th, 1955.
Richard worked as a Kansas City police officer after the service. He later owned a partnership picking up milk from farmers, using a bulk milk truck.
In 1959 he bought a Skelly service station in Mission Kansas and ran the station for 35 years.
He retired in 1992 when Ila and Richard then moved from Overland Park Kansas to Lee Summit Missouri. They enjoyed retirement by traveling to many places, enjoying their lake house in the Ozarks, and visiting family. In 2015 Ila and Richard moved to Mt. Ayr Iowa to be closer their daughter Becky.
Richard was a lifetime member at the Powder Creek gun club. He was also a member of the IRA, VFW, and the American legion. He was also the honor guard for the American legion.
Richard asked that we say these three things at his funeral, He loved Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior, He loved his family, and He loved his country. He will always be loved and missed by his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife Ila and three children. Gregory (Pam) McMeins of Olatha, KS, Becky (Brian) Brown of Tingley, IA, Chad McMeins of Mojava, CA. Six grandchildren James McMeins, Angela (Marcus) Crawford, Kelly Hicks, Mandy (Randy) Brumgardt all of Olatha KS. Chelsey (Justin) Kuonen of Diagonal, IA. Elly (Justin) Hawk of Osceola, IA. Fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
