On Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 7:12 p.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1500 Block of SW Manor Lake Drive, in the Manor Homes of Arborwalk. The caller reported smoke coming from the garage of a first floor apartment with the occupant of the apartment possibly still inside. 

When the fire department arrived, smoke was showing from the first floor apartment of a two-story, ten unit apartment building. The occupant of the involved apartment had been removed from the apartment with the assistance of neighbors.

Firefighters entered the smoke filled first floor apartment and extinguished a fire in the bedroom. A search of the fire apartment and building confirmed that everyone was out and the fire had not spread to adjacent apartments. The occupant of the fire apartment was assessed by fire department personnel and transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The incident was under control by 8:11 p.m.

Fire damage was contained to the apartment of origin. All other apartments were able to be reoccupied.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal, Lee’s Summit Fire Department, and the Lee’s Summit Police Department.
