Al Flatebo

Al Flatebo, 73, longtime Lee’s Summit resident, passed away November 24, 2020, at Research Medical Center.

He was born October 14, 1947 in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Martin and Lorena Flatebo.  He grew up close to and graduated from high school in Clarion, Iowa.  He came to the Kansas City area to go to trade school.   Al was an auto mechanic for most of his working years, then did home construction, remodeling, and repairs.

He was the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 220 from 1988 to 2002 and had 86 Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle during that time.  He went every summer to H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation from 1986 through 2020.  He achieved the responsibility of Keeper of the Wampum in the Tribe of Mic O Say.  He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Bartle Scout Camp in 2014.

Over his lifetime he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and car races.  He was raised on a farm, so he could build anything and fix anything.  He is survived by Sheila, his wife of 53 years; son Dan and wife Kim of Blue Springs; daughter Lisa Bass and husband Jonathan of Lee’s Summit.

Cremation, with plans for a memorial get-together in the spring.  Al will be very much missed by his wife and family, Scouters, and people he influenced.
