Mychal Antonio Cox, 30, of Lee’s Summit, passed away on December 14, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23rd at Longview Funeral Home, with visitation from 5-6 p.m.
Interment will take place at a later date at Longview Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mychal’s name are suggested to ReDiscover.
Mychal was born on August 14, 1990 in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Lees’ Summit, and was a gifted young athlete. He was a member of the Lee’s Summit Tigers Pop Warner League that finished 3rd in the nation as well as a left-handed pitcher that helped the Leeds Industrial Baseball team win
multiple league championships. In high school, he was on the honor roll and a member of the Air Force ROTC program. He played the following sports: football, wrestling, baseball, track; however, he excelled at football and wrestling at Lee’s Summit North High School. Following high school he earned a scholarship to play linebacker for Missouri Valley College. In addition to sports, Mychal enjoyed fishing, cars, motorcycles, and video games. He worked at the old Leeds Plant Storage Facility as a forklift
operator for his baseball coach from his Little League days. Mychal was a wonderful big brother to his two little brothers, and a beloved son to his parents. It is a proud moment as a parent when faculty, coaches, teammates, and friends seek you out to tell you what a wonderful, kind and genuine young man you have raised. He will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Denise Cox; biological mother, Lourdes Teresa Menendez;, Nicholas and A. J. Cox; godmothers, Carolyn ”Susie” Rasco, Sandra Gentry, and “Little Sandy”; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and countless cousins.
