College baseball post-season honors continue to be handed out now that the 2023 regular season has come to a close. Only eight teams are left playing and they will be starting play in the College World Series in Omaha this weekend. On Monday, Jun. 12 34 standout freshman were named to the NCAA Division 1 Freshman All American Team. One of the 34 is former Summit Christian Academy stand out Garrett Ferguson.

Garrett Ferguson is a freshman right hander from Blue Springs. Ferguson is now pitching for the Missouri State Bears in Springfield, MO. Ferg, as he is called by his friends and teammates, is listed at 6’0″ and 200 lbs. Ferguson’s memorable freshman year included getting married in December.

Carter DeGondea another Bears freshman pitcher says of Garrett “Biggest thing that makes Ferg good is his confidence. Has high confidence off and on the field.” DeGondea, from Ray-Pec, adds, “You can tell whenever he succeeds on the field he is very emotional.”

Ferguson’s memorable first season playing college baseball included finishing with a 1.88 ERA. His final record shows a 3-1 mark made in 21 appearances. Ferguson pitched 28.2 innings and recorded 27 strikeouts to go along with six saves.

The Freshman All American Team is voted on each year by the membership of the NCBWA, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
